first, thanks to all of you for your experiences, and replies, and for the tremendous amount of hits the site has received [842 as of this morning-in just over 72 hours.
]--- now thats spreading the "truth" (tm) isn't it?
the thread is here : http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=35808&site=3 .
Zev,
I finally got around to listening to your taped exploits. I have to give you a great deal of credit for sitting through that shit. I was sickened by the comments of some of those answering and even more sickened by the comments of the one giving the part. I can look back and thankfully say that this would have been a meeting that I would have refrained from conducting and commenting at unless I could figure out a way to difuse someone's more extreme remarks.
This is the sort of thing that those in the media and looking at examining the witnesses should hear more often as it truly reflects one of the harsher sides of the religion and the power it holds over it's members. What right minded person is going to stick around listening to someone telling you that you should not take in and care for a sick or dying parent just because they no longer believe the same way you do and they want to talk about it. Yeah let them just go homeless and die...
Excuse the explwetive but what utter Fucking Bull Shit!!!
Appreciatively,

ok, say someone was trying to find someone they once knew.
what advice would you give them?
its a woman who's since gotten married and divorced since the last time you talked to them back in the early/mid 90's and has also had a kid.
JC
Dakotareds suggestion is a pretty good one. Call the family, if they remember you or know you and you are not some completly off the wall stalker type they just might help.
You might also get your hands on a program called Net Detective, its supposed to be a pretty good tool.
felix
everybody has their own timetable when it comes to leaving the organization.
some due to family and friends continue indefinetly.
others, when they see all the lies of the "truth", leave right away.
It was about a 3 year process on a conscience level and even longer when you add up the different stages of my life.

P.S.
JT,
I was doing some clean up on my hard drive and found a copy of this old H2O post from back sometime in 99'. I mentioned you in it and in light of this thread I figure its good for a few shits and giggles...
Man I can't believe its been that long since I was playing the role of apologist.

Rick,
Regarding your friend who is concerned about some of the posts and their responses that are left here on the board. I'm not sure he realizes what dangerous ground he treads. Maybe reading Fahrenheit 451 would be a good starting point. We benefit not only from the voices of others who agree with us but often from the voices that do not. These voices of dissent can both shore up our beliefs as well as help us find our areas of weakness. At Bethel on my crew and many others what we were taught to ask ourselves regarding any situation was the question, What is Jehovah trying to teach us? JT may need to ask himself this question as a worshipper of Jehovah when it comes to the postings of those he considers to be opposers. Another question he may wish to ask himself is why this bothers me so much? Do I have such little confidence in the faith of my brothers and sisters that I believe they cannot handle this? Or is it that some of these words ring a little to true.
So JT if you're reading these responses consider this last thought of mine to you if you would.
Since I'm sure that as you read some posts, you find yourself getting a little angry. You may not want to continue reading them yourself. But you know that you are a mature Christian and so you can handle what is said. Besides, you may think to yourself, how am I going to help my brothers and sisters who do read these words and are not thinking about what they really say about God's people.
So you wonder what it would be like for them if you didn't come back and read some more. Suppose for a moment that that is exactly what some members of the writing department do themselves. They read what is written by individuals who disagree with their understanding and you wonder why can't I do the same as a mature Christian. Suddenly you feel moved to realize that you can. Then you remember what has been written in the magazine about even reading a little bit of leaven.
So you determine in your heart that you will try not to read the words you find out there that disagree with what you believe. You really try to do this. Yet you might find that you can notice some things you can agree with. So you allow yourself to come back and you pretend to these people that you are a little more open minded so that they will listen to you. So you wonder what is like if what they say is true and then you try to stop yourself from thinking about these things. When suddenly you realize that the criticism you wanted to go away has helped you to understand the bible better.

once again a post brought back memories of a jw story or perhaps urban legend.
the timeframe would have been (est.
) 1975-79. eastern us story/legend.. i recall the story as going something like this.
Here's some of what I remember about the Stanley. The year was 1983 or 84 for the acquasition of the Stanley Theater in Jersey City by the WTBS.
It was a remarkable old theater and as someone has already mentioned the interior was set up to appear as if you were in an Italian Piazza where you could look up at the ceiling and see the stars and clouds move over head in the night sky. The Society was sold the theater at what was considered to be a bargain price at the time. However, it was truly run down and had lost the luster of its glory days and its location was not what you would call a good neighborhood. The City did not want the property sold to the WTBS and removed from the tax rolls of the city, rather they wanted to find an investor that would use it to bring taxable events to the city. The city through up many road blocks to the Societies purchase and then continued to attempt to thwart their ability to make use of the property by legal shanigans.
Shortly after the purchase of the Stanley Theater a large group of us Bethelites were sent over to make the theater usable for a meeting that was to be used to set a precedence for meetings having been held in the theater in order to beat the City at their own game of legal hijinks. So here we were in this run down and dark old theater having to clean the most disgusting restrooms I have ever seen in my life. Some of these bathrooms had shit not only on the walls and floors but also on the ceilings. We had plumbers and electrians running around making sure we had the basics to work with. We were out mopping floors and vacuuming seats and carpets all so we could have this meeting in order to grandfather in the theaters status as a meeting hall. It was just before this meeting was to take place that the lawyers on both sides settled things and the Society was left to carry on in peace.
Some of the things we had an opportunity to see where some of the paintings that were soon to be destroyed that were found on the walls of the theater. Paintings that were based on the Roman or Greek mythologies and their gods. Paintings that were apparently worth thousands but because of the semi-nude women and men and their themes were to be destroyed rather than preserved or sold. The chandeliers were kept and restored, the ceiling was restored. This place had to have been absolutely gorgeous in its heyday. The Chandelier was an incredible piece of art, while I don't remember any drop ceilings hiding them, it doesn't mean they weren't there. However I do remember hearing about the offers to purchase thechandeliers for a million or two back when we were first remodeling the old place.
Between the Stanley and the Albemarle theater in Brooklyn I have never reupholstered so many seats. I have alot of fond memories of those days and the people I worked along during the restoration and renovation of those to buildings.

The wife and I are currently living in the Layton area. I'm a relocatee and my is a returnee to this part of the world.
Farkel, I wonder if the friend you mention who is living up in Logan is the same person I tried to get a hold of to have coffee shortly after arriving to the Wasatch front. I believe he was a rathr intelligent gent and a former regular of H2O in it's glory days. If he is I would still love to get together one of these days, so please feel free o drop me a line and maybe one of these days we can get together.
Anyone else out in Happy Valley Land North or South can feel free to drop me aline.

Dustrabbit, having worked up in Ogden for about 11 months I can understand the momon white trash joke...
back to baconyou already know how to get famous movie stars back to bacon.
now get yourself back in 5 steps or less.
i can do this several ways.
I now live in Utah. Kevin filmed Foot Loose in Utah. I've driven through the town that was the inspiration for Foot Loose. Does that get me back to Bacon???
Here let me try a better one. Kevin has been on the Howard Stern show. The Howard Stern show is from NY. I lived in NY. Howard was photographed by Mark Seliger for Rolling Stone. I know Mark Seliger.
All in all I still don't know Bacon...
But I can make it to one degree of separation if I tried, I can do that to just about anyone famous just by having lived and worked in NYC. Not that it has done me a lick of good ;-)
